Whether one has deep lines & wrinkles, large pores or sagging skin, Fraxel will address & improve all of these. You CAN turn back the on your skin and leave a smooth bright, tighter, regenerated complexion.

What is Fraxel?

Fraxel™ is deep dermal remodeling and epidermal resurfacing, which is a laser treatment that produces thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment in your skin, known as microthermal treatment zones. This treatment eliminates old epidermal pigmented cells. It also penetrates deep into the dermis. Just as important, though, are the areas of skin the Fraxel laser leaves untouched. For every microthermal zone the laser targets and treats intensively, it leaves the surrounding tissue unaffected and intact. This “fractional” treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body’s natural healing process to create new, healthy tighter tissue to replace skin imperfections.

Who is a candidate for Fraxel?

For anyone suffering from age spots, effects of the environment such as sun damage, acne scars, wrinkles near the eyes, and even Melasma, or commonly referred to as the “mask of pregnancy,” Fraxel is a great way to achieve clearer and even more radiant looking skin. Other skin disorders such as pigmentation issues and a need for skin resurfacing are effectively treated with Fraxel.

How is the Fraxel procedure performed?

Most patients describe an increased sensation of heat during the treatment. To minimize discomfort, topical anesthesia is applied before the procedure and cold air is used on the treatment area during the procedure. After the treatment, most patients feel like they have sunburn, which usually diminishes in 1 to 3 hours.

What should be expected during recovery from a Fraxel treatment?

After the treatment has concluded, the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis, will remain undamaged while the deeper layer, the dermis, begins to heal. The patient may notice the appearance and discomfort of sunburn and eventually a slight tanning or bronzing of the skin which begins to show in a few weeks depending on the skin type. The old skin cells will slough off and the skin will gradually repair itself, igniting new collagen development. The skin should be treated as sunburn, keeping it moisturized and out of heavy sun exposure.

Bronzing: Your skin will have a bronze appearance that lasts anywhere from three to fourteen days, depending on the treatment level.

Flaking: Your skin will naturally and vigorously exfoliate as the reorganized epidermal skin replaces dead tissue. Flaking is similar to that of minor sunburn, without the associated pain. Use of a moisturizer will mask the appearance of flaking.

Patients can expect to return to daily activities right away or may require a bit more time to adjust. Makeup may be worn to help alleviate some of the redness to the skin if desired and if the skin is not too sensitive to the touch. Shaving may also be done if discomfort is minimal. Every patient’s skin is unique so different recovery times are normal.

When will results from Fraxel be apparent?

Results will usually begin to show in about two to three months post treatment, yet every patient’s skin type varies.

Has the Fraxel treatment received FDA clearance?

The Fraxel laser has received FDA clearance for the treatment of the following:

  • Age and Sun Spots.
  • Brown Spots/Pregnancy Mask (Melasma).
  • Acne Scars and Surgical Scars.
  • Skin Resurfacing.

How many treatments will I need and how often?

Maximum results are realized in just 3 – 5 sessions. They are usually spaced 2 – 6 weeks apart.

What side-effects can I expect after treatment and how long will they last?

You will have some degree of redness and swelling. How long this lasts will depend on how aggressive the treatment is and what your particular healing characteristics are.

What precautions should I take after treatments?

Wear sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher and avoid direct sun exposure while during your series of treatments and while you are healing.

How long do Fraxel treatments last?

It depends on your particular conditions and how you care for your skin. Once your skin is restored, continued sun protection and a skin maintenance program is an essential part of having youthful, healthy and rejuvenated skin.

After a near fatal factory accident, I was left with severe facial scars. I was a new, young mother and dreaded the thought of my son growing scared of my appearance. My dermatologist sent me to Gail Robertson at Skin Medx for which I'll be forever blessed. I always felt embarrassed going for consultations and was apprehensive to subject myself yet again. When Gail received me and introduced herself, I immediately felt comfortable. I felt at that moment, she was meeting ME, a person and not focused on my obvious facial scars. It didn't take much time to know that I am in the right, caring hands and was being directed to resolve. I had many other laser treatments at hospitals and clinics and did not see any change. With Fraxel Restore, I noticed improvement on my surgical scars after the first few treatments. My family and friends recognized the changes (my mother cried each time), then in the final stages I walked a different walk and was no longer afraid to face my daily life. B. (Toronto, ON)
I just turned 40, (Asian female) been living in Hawaii for the past five years and as much as I'm diligent about sun protection, I looked 45. When visiting Toronto and admiring the beautiful glowing skin of my best friend, I had to know her secret. She told me all about her experience with Fraxel and was happy to take me to Skin Medx ten days before my return to Hawaii. It was an unbelievable experience A-Z . I was seeing my skin change before my eyes. When my skin was shedding, it was very brown looking. I realized how unaware of how much sun damage I had. Since I returned home and to my job in the Exotic pearl and jewelry boutique on the Island, I have been receiving compliments galore. I find myself sneaking glances in the mirrors and in the glass displays when I'm polishing them, "admiring my own skin"... The now conceited : )  H. (Kauai, Hawaii)
I am a middle aged male and had several concerns with my skin.  My biggest concern was my deep acne scarring or "ice pick scars". I had suffered embarrassment since my teens and tried many other treatments and products before being directed to Gail Robertson of Skin Medx. I was initially skeptical as nothing had worked in the past .However; Gail came so highly recommended that I was, for the first time, hopeful. After a thorough analysis of my skin, Gail introduced the Fraxel Restore laser treatment. She carefully explained the procedure and what my expectations should be before I enthusiastically booked my appointment. Her knowledge, expertise and especially her care was unbelievable. As explained to me, there was some discomfort. However, my scars have diminished and the sun damage caused by my efforts to camouflage the scars has been removed. I am extremely happy. S. A. (Toronto, ON)
"I had extensively researched Fraxel/Laser that it could address my skin concerns from aging. I then had to find a trustworthy, capable, experienced and honest professional to provide these treatments. Gail (she'd in great demand), she was more than I expected. Gail is knowledgeable, honest, experienced, candid, careful, patient, kind and, quite simply, wonderful. Her sterling reputation is well deserved. After four treatments in fourth months, I & others are seeing an improvement in the smoothness and tightness in the skin of my face & neck. I look forward to increased benefits in the coming months as the full effects of the collagen remodeling become apparent." M. (Toronto)
At 56 years of age and menopausal, I thought there was nothing I could do to lift and tighten my sagging, aging skin. I had tried some skin tightening lasers that made little or no difference to my appearance. I was referred to Skin Medx by my Dermatologist who had referred many of his patients who raved about their results. After three Fraxel Restore treatments, I am happier with my skin now than I have ever been. I saw a difference after each treatment and continued to see improvement three months after my last one. Not only did I get a lift but my pores are smaller and my age spots are gone.  D. M. (Uxbridge, ON)
